What is Independent Direct?

Independent Direct is a no investment advice technology platform that allows clients to buy and sell Canadian and US listed securities. The platform is available in Canada and is designed to make investing more accessible to everyone.

  • There are several types of personal accounts, including:
    • Cash (Individual, Joint)
    • Margin (Individual, Joint)
    • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RSP)
    • Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA)
    • Registered Education Savings Plan 
    • First Home Savings Account (FHSA)
    • Locked-In Retirement Account (LIRA)
    • Registered Retirement Income Fund (RRIF)
    • Lock-In Retirement Income Fund (LRIF)
  • There are several types of Entity accounts including:
    • Corporations: (Cash or Margin)
    • Trusts:  (Cash or Margin)
    • Partnerships: (Cash or Margin)
    • Charities/Not for Profit Organizations: (Cash or margin)

You can fund your account using bill payment.

  • Log into your online banking account and navigate to the ‘Pay Bills’ or ‘Make a Bill Payment’ section. Add ‘Fidelity Clearing Canada’ under the ‘Pay To’ field and enter the Independent Direct account number you’d like to fund. Then, specify the amount you wish to deposit. Bill payments typically take one to two business days to process.
